FIRST PLAY

The Pro Football Hall of Fame and the NFL will kick off festivities with the annual “First Play” on Wednesday, Aug. 1 at 10 AM.  Nearly 3,000 children will pass a football along a three-mile route, starting in downtown Canton, where the NFL was founded in 1920, to the front steps of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The NFL Don Shula High School Coach of the Year, COACH ROBERT GARRETT from Crenshaw High School, accompanied by members of the 2018 NFL Play Football Coaches Council, will receive the final football delivery  joining DAVID BAKER, Pro Football Hall of Fame President & CEO, and ROMAN OBEN, NFL Vice President of Youth and High School football, on the steps of the Hall of Fame to kick off Enshrinement Week and Play Football celebrations.

YOUTH FOOTBALL SKILLS CAMP

The Pro Football Hall of Fame in collaboration with the NFL will host a Play Football Skills Camp on Wednesday, Aug. 1 from 6-8PM at Johnson Controls Hall of Fame Village’s National Youth Football & Youth Sports Complex for nearly 300 participants. The Skills Camp will feature football activities designed for children ages 11-14. Hall of Famers will take the field to assist and encourage camp participants and host a panel discussion on the values of the game.  Hall of Famers include MEL BLOUNT, TIM BROWN, ERIC DICKERSON, MARSHALL FAULK, JOHN RANDLE and WILL SHIELDS.

Local high school football players and Play Football Coaches Council will also serve as mentors and coaches during the Skills Camp.

Activities include a tour of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, introduction to the Hall’s A Game For Life curriculum, a meet & greet with David Baker, and inclusion in on-field pre-game festivities.

The Council is composed of NFL Club Coach of the Year winners and offers the coaches an opportunity to attend a tentpole event such as the Pro Bowl and Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week (to attend the Hall of Fame enshrinement? A “tentpole” event does not have much meaning), a professional development session and an opportunity to share their expertise with other coaches.

HALL OF FAME GAME
